Ms. Yamagami is an experienced worker who has been engaged in architectural work for 20 years. Kato Construction Co., Ltd employed her as a career worker on October 1st and the following is a brief history of her work after her joining the company.
―――――First of all, could you tell me about the flow of your day's work?
Yamagami: After morning meetings and internal meetings, I go to the construction site. In the morning we have meetings with customers and cooperators and conduct field surveys. In the evening, I go to the work site again and check the progress of construction and set up work for the next day. I work in the office for 2 hours, at most 3 hours. I do some paper work such as construction planning and estimate how much preparation will be needed. Before leaving the office, all of the workers do radio exercises. It is a good way to relax our muscles and prevent injuries at the site.
―――――What kind of construction site do you work at?
Yamagami: I accompany my senior worker Ms.Tanaka, and learn the basic flow of field management. I can learn a lot from Ms.Tanaka how to work at the site. Yesterday we worked at a bath renovation site. I was surprised how thoroughly Ms. Tanaka explained the functions and how to use the system bath. Usually people finish by telling the customer, “Please read the instruction manual for details, and do not hesitate to ask any questions.”, but she doesn’t do this.
Ms.Tanaka points out how recent models are changed by the manufacturer so quickly that sometimes new models are released within 1 year. She also mentions how you can fully appreciate the value of the new model only after you have completely mastered all of the functions. She also says that she thinks older people and women may be confused when using new appliances.
―――――The staff try to pay meticulous attention to detail by putting themselves into the shoes of users.
Ms.Yamagami mentions that her small physique prevents her from doing the same kind of manual work as men and sometimes gets her in trouble. She also says that while women are good at cleaning and tidying, she also helps workmen by communicating well and they help with any physical tasks that I cannot do.
―――――Could you tell me about your goals at work?
Yamagami: I wanted to work on remodeling, so I joined Kato Construction Co., Ltd. In that respect, I think that it was a positive career change. I worked in architecture in my thirties and I learned on site while doing office work. I did not have a direct superior, and I studied from a craftsman each time. I joined Kato Construction and realized that I wasn’t good at construction law and drawings. I am going to aim for a level up without depending on the current situation. I’m not completely satisfied standing still and what to move up and betters myself.
―――――It seems like every day is fulfilling for you.
Yamagami: I feel like each day passes quickly.
It's refreshing to learn new work every day and there are so many things to remember that I have to work at an almost feverish pace. I would also like to learn steadily from Ms.Tanaka. Ms. Yamagami seems to be working enthusiastically in her work, taking advantage of every chance to change her job. I will be in close contact with her future growth and success, and deliver another hot report!
